The majority of us had to wear uniforms for school. We may have hated our school uniforms, taking it off and changing into something else as soon as we got home from school, or tried to change it up a bit to stand out from the sea of hundreds of other students. It is something that is compulsory that we, as students, have no control over. A button-up shirt, blazer and tie may not be the most ideal, fashionable or even comfortable pieces of clothing, but for schools, it creates a sense of identity and is an important part of being a school student.

It’s a badge of pride and it shows that you are part of something bigger. It creates equality and unity, and by wearing it, it says that all students are in it together for certain schools, uniform is compulsory as it maintains a balance and order among the students. It even helps eliminate bullying simply because everyone is dressed the same and students can’t be teased for wearing something unusual or different.

By wearing school uniforms, it makes you dress smarter and take pride in your appearance. Bullying is a big issue in a lot of school. Students can pick on other students for any small reasons. Whether you’re too smart at school or not smart enough, some students see it as something that can be picked on and bullied for. With no school uniforms, it gives students another reason to bully others about. School uniforms lessen the social conflicts within the school. You don’t have to worry about keeping up with the latest fashion trends or being able to afford expensive clothes to avoid being bullied because of poor clothing choices. When it comes to fashion, if you don’t dress a certain way, you may often become the subject of ridicule because other students see you as an outcast. As a result of this, your self-esteem can be negatively affected and give rise to many insecurities. No one wants to be bullied and with a compulsory school uniform, this can be prevented.

This is also beneficial to parents as it lessens clothing expenses for their day to day use. Students don’t have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes and when everyone is dressed the same, worrying about what you look like becomes irrelevant. You don’t have to spend ages trying to figure out what outfit to wear every day when a uniform is quick and easy to throw on without any second thought. Students can surely concentrate more on their education rather than their wardrobes.
